CASE MANAGERS

Graduating in 1999 as a physiotherapist, Lauren expanded her skills to include spinal cord, acquired brain and multi-trauma injury rehabilitation. She held the position of Operational Manager in a rehabilitation facility for medically complex, neurologically injured individuals. Lauren is experienced in liaising closely and positively with clients and their families, support workers, therapists, medical and legal teams to coordinate and improve care and rehabilitation. Working as a senior case manager, Lauren understands the needs of the litigation team, coordinating with solicitors on both single and joint instruction cases under the Rehabilitation Code. Her specialist experience naturally led her to commence medico legal work as a care and rehabilitation expert.

Kate supports the team in a senior role. She qualified as a physiotherapist in 2001, working at several London teaching hospitals. In 2007 she commenced work as a specialist neurological case manager managing complete and incomplete spinal injuries, amputation and multi-trauma orthopaedic injuries. Kate is highly knowledgeable, with a positive approach, helping clients to adjust to the challenges their injury presents and supporting their emotional, as well as medical, and physical needs.

Elizabeth qualified as a nurse in 2004, and worked as a senior staff nurse in spinal cord injury. Since 2013, Elizabeth has worked as a case manager, supporting legal and medical teams and managing support workers. She has worked with individuals with spinal cord injury, acquired brain injury and multi-trauma, including amputees.

In 2021 Elizabeth qualified as an Advanced Case Manager and began to further her skills as a care and rehabilitation expert.

Lisa has worked as an occupational therapist since 1997, within the NHS at specialist rehabilitation units and in the independent sector. She has worked with those who have sustained a wide range of conditions including complex brain injuries, multi-trauma injuiries, amputation and spinal cord injuries. She developed particular skills as a hand therapist and has worked as a specialist case manager since 2018, coordinating and improving all aspects of an individual’s care and rehabilitation needs.

Jessica is a qualified social worker with 10 years experience specialising in adult social care. Since 2020, Jessica has worked as a case manager and has experience in the management of complex orthopaedic injuries, major trauma and spinal cord injury, along with neurological loss, mental health and challenging behaviour.

Jessica is passionate about working jointly with other members of the clinical team and the client’s family to implement client centric rehabilitation programmes, utilising a multidisciplinary approach to ensure a successful outcome is achieved.

Pippa is an experienced physiotherapist and case manager with a particular interest in the management of individuals (including children) with severe brain injuries and multi trauma including amputation. Pippa graduated from Guy’s Hospital School of Physiotherapy in 1991.  Pippa has held a variety of positions within the NHS, working with adults and children and assisting with their rehabilitation. In 2005, having worked as Lead Neurological Physiotherapist at Ipswich Hospital, Pippa left the NHS and has since worked in the private industry as a specialist physiotherapist and a case manager.

Jason graduated in 2007 with BSc (Hons) Sports Rehabilitation, Jason gained experience in this field, before setting up his own Physiotherapy company in 2011. Jason progressed to work as a rehabilitation case manager and has many years experience case managing clients with amputation, complex orthopaedic injuries and mild brain injuries.

Jason has gained experience as amputee clinical lead, overseeing other case managers and having clinical oversight regarding their clients.

Jason is passionate about empowering individuals to reach their maximum rehabilitation potential.

Qualifying as an occupational therapist in 1998 Christa has gained extensive experience at a senior level providing rehabilitation and disability management to adults with a wide range of complex medical and neurological conditions. She has specialist skills in upper limb neuro and amputee interventions and has provided both in-clinic and home-based training and therapy for upper and lower limb amputees .

She has an excellent understanding of how challenging the needs of catastrophically injured individuals can be as well as the needs of the litigation team through her work as an OT since 1999, a case manager since 2007 and care and rehabilitation expert since 2022.

Pippa has over 25 years’ experience as a physiotherapist working with clients who have sustained complex orthopaedic injury within both the community and hospital settings. Pippa is passionate about working closely with other members of the clinical team and the client’s family to implement rehabilitation programmes that revolve around each individual, ensuring a positive outcome.

Pippa joined EWA in 2023 to enable her to utilise her specialist skills within a case management role. She is highly conscientious, proactive and organised which facilitates her holistic approach as a successful case manager.

Heidi is a highly experienced Occupational Therapist and Case Manager with more than 30 years of specialist clinical experience in neurological rehabilitation across both the NHS and private practice. She works with clients who have sustained traumatic and acquired brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, stroke and other complex neurological conditions. Heidi has extensive experience across acute, inpatient and community rehabilitation settings, combining specialist occupational therapy skills with holistic case management and multidisciplinary coordination. Heidi is committed to delivering client-centred rehabilitation programmes that maximise independence, wellbeing and quality of life.

Alistair is an experienced Occupational Therapist and Case Manager with a strong clinical background in major trauma rehabilitation. Highly organised and proactive, Alistair combines clinical expertise with strong leadership and coordination skills. He is committed to achieving positive outcomes for clients by ensuring rehabilitation programmes are carefully planned, implemented and reviewed in line with best practice guidelines.

EXPERT WITNESSES

Emma qualified as an occupational therapist in 1996, specialising in spinal cord injuries since 2000. She has developed particular expertise in seated postural management and optimisation of upper limb recovery through handling skills, assistive technologies and splinting. In 2023 Emma was awarded a Royal College of Occupational Therapists’ Merit Award in recognition of her outstanding contribution and commitment to the profession, positive influence, high professional practice standards and invaluable work at a national level.

Whilst continuing to work as team lead at the London Spinal Cord Injury Centre, Emma commenced working as a rehabilitation expert in 2019.

Loretta qualified as a Paediatric Nurse in 2015.  Loretta has worked in both teaching hospitals and within the community with children who have complex needs. In 2022 Loretta became a paediatric case manager, working with children who have sustained a brain injury either at birth or during their childhood.

Loretta joined Emma Way Associates in 2024 as a paediatric care and rehabilitation expert utilizing her expertise managing complex paediatric cases including working with the family, managing care packages with ventilation, peg feeding and tracheostomy care needs and coordinating therapeutic intervention.

Andrew is an experienced physiotherapist and physiotherapy expert with a particular interest in the management of amputee and complex polytrauma individuals. After graduating from Plymouth University with a BSc in Physiotherapy in 2009, Andrew has held a variety of physiotherapy positions within the NHS and privately, assessing and providing prosthetic and amputee rehabilitation to individuals. Andrew is currently a Major Trauma Practitioner, coordinating the care of all MTC individuals admitted to University Hospital Wales and is currently writing a service review for patients who have been treated within the MTC network following traumatic amputation.

Carolyn is a Chartered Physiotherapist with a clinical background spanning acquired brain injury, complex multi-trauma, orthopaedics, neurology and neurosurgery, developed in senior posts across acute hospital settings, specialist rehabilitation services and community-based provision in both the UK and New Zealand. Alongside her clinical work, she has held roles with Parkinson’s UK and the Motor Neurone Disease Association, supporting individuals and families affected by progressive neurological conditions through advisory and education-focused posts. Prior to joing EWA Carolyn was director of a brain injury case management company, maintaining a clinical caseload of clients with complex care needs, coordinating multidisciplinary input, and advising on rehabilitation pathways, accommodation solutions and equipment provision. Carolyn has worked as an expert witness since 2005, preparing expert care reports for clients with acquired brain injuries in Europe, and has completed various Bond Solon training modules. She has attended numerous pre-trial conferences, meeting of experts and has given evidence in Court.

Philippa is highly experienced in the medico-legal process, having produced expert care and occupational therapy reports within her area of specialism since 2007. Philippa regularly provides expert justification for her recommendations, attends joint expert meetings and is confident giving evidence in court. Drawing on extensive experience across both acute and community neurological services, Philippa has an in-depth understanding of the rehabilitation journey following brain injury. She is skilled in completing comprehensive assessments addressing cognitive, physical and behavioural deficits, and designing targeted intervention programmes focused on meaningful functional improvement. Philippa is experienced in managing complex rehabilitation pathways, setting up and overseeing care packages, identifying appropriate specialist equipment and coordinating multi-disciplinary therapy. Her background includes leading teams, supervising staff and students, and acting as a resource to other occupational therapists working with neurological conditions. Recognised for her thoroughness and collaborative approach, Philippa works closely with legal professionals, therapy teams and case managers to ensure clients’ needs are fully understood and addressed.

Emma qualified as an Occupational Therapist in 1997 and, after 20 years in the NHS, commenced working in independent practice as a case manager and care and rehabilitation expert. In 2016, Emma set up Emma Way Associates (EWA) employing, managing and supervising other highly qualified professionals to provide these specialist services following catastrophic injury. Emma has extensive experience of working with individuals who have sustained spinal cord injuries and peripheral nerve injury (including brachial plexus and hand injuries) as well as with those who have experienced severe burns and the secondary diagnoses that often accompany catastrophic, multitrauma injuries including amputation, chronic pain and minor brain injuries. Emma is passionate about providing a clinically led, forward thinking business using a problem solving approach to ensure clients are at the centre of all services provided to them.

After stepping away from the industry to focus on raising her son, diagnosed with Asperger’s, Alice transitioned her expertise as proofreading lead for a large team of proofreaders and over 50 experts.  After 16 years, Alice joined EWA as proofreading lead to ensure the delivery of high-quality, specialist reports.
